The North Queensland Cowboys have given Cairns fans some hope they can mount a second half comeback with a Johnathan Thurston-inspired try right on the halftime buzzer.The legendary No. 7, who has impressed in his return from a shoulder injury, got his foot to a loose Tigers pass 30m out from his own line, kicked again on half way then popped a pass to backrower Coen Hess to score under the posts.Ethan Lowe stepped up to convert the try but unbelievably he hit the post from directly in front and missed.The Tigers lead 10-4 after first half tries to Corey Thompson and Malakai Watene-Zelezniak.The Tigers are spoiling the party for Cowboys fans at Barlow Park with a dominant display.Halves Luke Brooks and Josh Reynolds have been finding holes everywhere in the Cowboys defence and lead 24-4 going into the final 20 minutes.Johnathan Thurston was substituted at halftime after a fantastic 40 minutes which should give him and fans plenty of confidence his shoulder has responded well to surgery.In a night that had a 40-minute blackout, stifling heat and torrential rain, the visitors controlled the game brilliantly, taking out a 30-16 win.Leading 10-4 at the break, the Tigers broke away to a 20-point lead midway through the second half before Tully’s Jake Clifford crashed over and attempted to spark a Cowboys comeback.They got it to within eight when, taking advantage of the sin bin of Tigers winger Mahe Fonua, Cowboys utility John Asiata scored from dummy half with three minutes remaining.The Tigers added another try on the stroke of full time when Shane Wright coughed up from the kickoff and David Nofoluma toed ahead to score his side’s fifth try.
